12:18 am - Ghosts (a drabble) At long last, I can post this drabble. It has gone through more drafts than I care to remember, but come out the better for it. It's still not one of my greatest pieces, but at this point, I'm just glad I'm getting to post it at all!
Thanks to Sica for being so patient with the re-writing process and for insisting that it make sense before she'd let me run with it. Also, thanks to my cousin who took time out of her busy schedule to give this a once over. Without her help, this entire piece would be a lot clunkier.

08:02 pm - Tidings for Joy (a drabble) All I can really say about this one is, well...so much for spreading holiday cheer. Ah well.
Thanks, as always, to Sica for the beta.

02:53 pm - Be Careful What You Wish For (a drabble) When I read the prompt for this one, I cracked up. How could I not make this humourous? I'm still not sure whether I pulled it off. In fact, it's probably the weakest drabble I've written in years. But I enjoyed writing it. *grins* (Though I may rewrite eventually....)
Another one Sica betaed in the midst of Thanksgiving, while my mom was pestering her and her mom was shouting for her.... If I was paying her, I'd give her a pay raise. *winks* Anyway, thanks to her for rapid-fire feedback on this one.

02:05 pm - Serendipitous (a drabble) Here's the first thing that wasn't started back in summer. I decided I needed a break from all the angst and drama I'd been writing. Especially after writing The Lesser Evil and then going straight into Spilt Milk. Then you add things like Windsong and Remains, and, well... So here I am, once again proving how horrible I am at writing fluff. Ah well. It was a nice change of pace.
Thank to Sica for her two second beta in the midst of Thanksgiving craziness. How she does it, I'll never know....

08:55 am - Remains (a drabble) Here's another (and thankfully the last) drabble I started back in summer, but before I didn't finish re-writing. It's not one of my best, but ah well. Everyone has off days.
Thanks, as always, to Sica for her patience and red pen, both of which improved this piece immensely.

02:32 pm - Spilt Milk (a drabble) I've had the draft for this sitting in my notebook since mid-August, but with everything that happened, I couldn't find the inspiration to finish polishing it up. Well, last week, after a few really terrible days at work, it suddenly clicked into place. So, hurrah, I'm writing again!
Thanks goes to Sica (as usual) for completely rejecting the first draft and getting me to turn it into something much better than it was.

02:43 pm - Favourite characters Stolen from jennytork because I can't resist these sorts of things (even though I know no one will really answer - ah well).
1) Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/bands [fannish etc.] that you've had an obsessive fannish love or interest in at some time in your life. 2) Have your f-list guess your favorite character/member from each item. 3) When someone guesses correctly, strikethrough the item and put the name of your favorite character next to it.
Some of my fandoms have so few main characters that I'm not bothering to put them up, so if you're wondering why certain titles aren't up here, there's the answer. Also, you'll notice some children's shows. What can I say? The prompt was "at some time in your life" - I couldn't help playing on that a little.
1. Magnificent Seven* 2. Saint Seiya 3. Doctor Who** 4. Detective Conan 5. Space Island One 6. Witch Hunter Robin 7. Blake's 7* 8. Babylon 5 9. Monkey Island*** 10. Today's Special 11. Fruits Basket 12. The Last Unicorn 13. Andromeda 14. Supernatural 15. The Cocoanuts**** 16. Yu Yu Hakusho 17. House 18. Stargate SG-1* 19. Neverwhere 20. The Hardy Boys
* These show each have two characters that I've consistently gone back and forth between, to the point where they're pretty much equal nowadays. Both need to be guessed before I'll strike it from the list.
** For Doctor Who, I have three favourite companions and two favourite doctors. A correct answer (leading to the item being struck from the list) need only have one companion and one doctor.
*** Obviously, Guybrush is my favourite character. Let's see who can guess my second favourite (from any of the games)!
**** My favourite character is played by one of the Marx Brothers and I will accept his name (opposed to the character's name) as an answer. Major kudos to anyone who can guess my 2nd favourite character.
Also, a note for Sica: hold off answering until Friday, in the vain hope that someone else will post something. Oh, and if you can't get at least three quarters of these right, I'll have to disown you as my beta. No pressure, though. *winks* Current Location: My Apartment Current Mood: playful

11:42 am - Anywhere But Here (drabble re-write) Alright. So this is the last of the summer writing that I've been slowly posting. (Actually, this should've been up last week, but I got distracted...) If it seems vaguely familiar, that's because it's a re-write of a drabble I posted back in April. (The original can be found here) It reads much better now and is closer to what I orginally had in mind. Also, this one has been beta'd, by Sica, of course.

02:02 pm - Windsong (a poem) I wrote this back in August. And I'm still occasionally fiddling with it! In other words, I could really use some feedback here. I'm not completely sure, but I think maybe it still needs to tweaking? Or not. Like I said, feedback would be appreciated.

11:57 am - Chasing Ghosts (a drabble) Sica was the one who inspired this piece from something she said in an e-mail. She also beta'd it for me. So I guess she gets double the thanks this time. (Or double the blame, depending on your perspective. *winks*)

12:44 am - A not-so-brief writing update. During these past few months, my ability to write was terribly askew. However, even when I'm not able to write complete stories, my mind still toils over various ideas. It's one of the main reasons why I'll never give up writing. This last round left me considering all the various projects I've left hanging.
The past year was great; I was finally writing again. But I lacked specific ambition. Instead, I was picking off story ideas here and there, a lot of them based on prompts. Well, it's been fun and I'll continue doing that to some extent, but I think it's time to get serious about the story ideas cluttering my mind.
So, for those who are curious, I'm posting a rough list of the projects that have built up. They're vaguely in the order that I plan to work on them. Though my muse's mood will dictate much of that. Now some of these may not be coming for quite a while (I'm talking years here), but at least people will know what lurking in the dusty corners of my brain...

12:42 am Finally, I am managing to get back onto this blog! This update is long overdue. But, hey, it's only taken me...what? four months? *shrugs sheepishly* Sorry to anyone who was actually reading this.
Anyway. Head under the cut if you want to try and find some semblance of a point in my ramblings.

10:09 am I was going to update today. Right now, even. But whatever it is that motivates me to write these blogs has once again vanished into ether.
I know I desperately need to get an update posted. And I need to finish posted the various pieces that I wrote over the summer. I promise this is all coming! I'm still here and wanting to continue this blog. I just need to learn not to log onto Facebook before I finish up with Livejournal. Facebook kind of overloads me on the whole communication thing and poof! there goes my motivation. It's possible that site is actually evil. Probably more than possible. Sigh.
Anyway. Updates are coming. (Though whether or not anyone actually reads this who isn't already fully informed about my life is an interesting question....XD)
And, yes. I will save the world....eventually! (Sorry. Reference to a middle school play.)
Until then...

12:37 am
Have you ever gotten to a point with doing something that it's pretty much second nature? You know, so routine that you don't even have to engage your brain? And have you ever suddenly thought about how to do whatever it is and gone completely blank?
Actually, I imagine that everyone has those moments (at least I hope it's not only me!). I just wanted to state, for the record, that at the end of a very long shift, at the end of a very long week, while you're trying to open your locker, is a really crappy time to have that happen.
Yes, this was how I ended my night. Standing in front of my locker and having my combination go poof!
Oi.
So there I am, trying over and over to open that damn locker and get my clothes...my backpack...my wallet...my keys. (Honestly, if my keys hadn't been in there, I might have just said "screw it!" and headed home.) I went through an interesting range of emotions in that minute and a half. Amusement. Irritation. Anger. Panic (cause who the hell is going to have access to my combination at midnight?).
Obviously, I figured it out. Well, kind of. Shortly before I burst out into frustrated tears, this calm, rational part of my mind took over. I knew the first and third number and the second was somewhere within a twelve number range. That's not too bad. It shouldn't take too long to run through all the possibilities in order. Okay. Fine. I can do that. (See? All those computer games like Hocus Pocus and Cendric's Quest paid off eventually!)
First try. It opens. *smacks forehead*
It's been that sort of week....month....summer...
Whatever. I'm just glad it's almost over. Sigh... Current Location: My apartment Current Mood: drained Current Music: 'Reflections From Broadway' John Barrowman

08:22 am - Writer's Block: Proven by Science
Heh. This question is surprisingly difficult for me to answer.
I have always loved science and I can't understand the people who object to knowing the scientific explanation behind things. For me, knowing why something works the way it does just makes it all the more wonderous, especially in fields such as atronomy, chemistry and physics.
But does everything have a scientific explanation? Hmmm.
I think...I think my answer is "yes". There is nothing in this universe that can't be tested and proven and explained by scientific learning. However, I'm not sure that our science can ever capture it all.
Our reality is defined by our perceptions and human perception is woefully limited. I believe in many things that science can't explain, many things that science simply dismisses. Perhaps someday these beliefs will turn to proven fact, but it the universe is vast and seems like everytime science solves one mystery, another dozen appear.
So, to summarize, I don't believe there's anything in this universe that can't be explained, but I sincerely doubt that humans are meant to be the ones who will understand it all. Current Location: My apartment Current Mood: contemplative Current Music: Ironically, the soundtrack from Barrow Hill

01:41 am - Another geeky moment.
Random thoughts can be fun.
At work today, my mind wandered to astronomy trivia. (Due, in large part, to me having trouble remembering whether it's the Perseid meteor shower in August or the Leonids. Then I remembered that since Leo is the sun sign for most of August, it would be impossible to observe a meteor shower originating in Leo at this time of year! Yes, I'm geek. Anyway.) And part of me began wondering just how many of the constellations I could name...
*headdesk*
Yes, I really have too much time on my hands.
The result is that, off the top of my head, I can name 50 of the 88 constellations. And there were 9 of them I could only remember what they were supposed to be, but couldn't recall the name. So if we count those...
59 constellations I can name off the top of my head. 59. Out of 88.
It's possible I need a life. Sigh. Current Location: My apartment Current Mood: geeky

11:55 am - There are days when I feel like such a geek... So, recently I've fallen back into the universe of an anime I enjoy - Detective Conan (Funimation released it under the title of Case Closed with a really horrible english dub). Sadly, it's only been released up to a certain point. It was frustrating to suddenly stop after rewatching certain episodes from the ones I have. I was just getting into it...
Then I remembered Sparrow giving me a link to a place where people can read manga online. (Thank you so much, Sparrow!) So I go to check there. And, hurrah! they have the manga of Detective Conan. All 700 chapters of it...and they're not done posting....
Still, as I was reading (actually, I'm still reading - again, 700 chapters. oi...), though, I found myself wanting to watch the future episodes more and more. Eventually I broke down and went on a very long, very annoying hunt for fan-subs (unofficial subtitling done by fans).
Well all of that does make me feel like such a geek, this is actually leading up to the true moment of geekiness.
One of my favourite characters from this anime is from Osaka and speaks with a Kansai dialect. As far as I understand it, it's a very distinctive accent with slight changes in word choice and such. Since I don't actually speak Japanese, I can't really say for sure.
When I was watching the episodes with this character, for the first time I tried really listening to his voice (in part because I found out he's the voice actor for one of my favourite characters on a different anime - still can't believe tha!)....and I heard it! I heard his accent! I couldn't tell you exactly what was different - as I said, I don't actually speak any Japanese - but there something about the words and the regularity of certain consonants... Anyway, the point is I heard it! For the first time, I managed to pick out a Osaka accent!
It's depressing how excited I am by this.
Even worse, when the main character of the anime has to impersonate his voice, he fakes the Osaka accent. Badly. (It actually is established between the characters that his accent is awful - I didn't figure that out on my own!) Well, in this fan-sub, they pointed out what he was doing wrong. And it was awesome because, yet again, I heard it! Even more, for the first time I caught where Conan was stumbling over words or struggling with phrasing. It was really....well...for lack of a better word, cool! (And, yes, his accent really is awful!)
And as I'm sitting there grinning all proudly and happily.....it suddenly hit me just how much of a geek I am.
I so need a life.
....But I still think it's really neat that I can hear that accent......*headdesk*
